at a court held 18.4.1693 Eliz Smith then wife of Gilb Smith was admitted to her and heirs to one croft of land customary with appurtenances called Stulpes lying next to a close called Spriggsmarsh and also to one messuage and certain lands and tenements called Stacyes and Westlands with barn stables and buildings to said messuage belonging with appurtenances and that at a special court here held 31.5.1714 Eliz Smith surrendered all and singular her customary lands and tenements held of the manor to uses of her last will Wm Smith eldest son of Eliz and produces here in court last will of Eliz dated 23.11.1714 in following english words imprimis I give and devise unto my eldest son Wm Smith and his heirs forever all that my messuage tenement and farm with the lands and tenements thereunto belonging with the appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid now in the occupation of Thos Stead and all that my cottage with the appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupation of Thos Pudny and Jn Dor and all that my hopground with the appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupation of my said son Wm upon condition that my said son Wm Smith and his heirs shall and do pay unto my daughter Jane Robinson wife of Jas Robinson or her assigns yearly and every year for and during the term of her natural life the sum of 5li of lawful money of Great Britain first payment to begin and be made within one year next after my decease and under other conditions in said last will expressed as by last will plainly appears thereupon said Wm Smith humbly petitions etc admitted to premises etc under conditions in last will expressed giving lord fine etc
