at a court held for the manor 11.4.1721 Math Newman then a customary tenant of the manor surrendered into hand of lord by rod by hand of steward all and singular his messuages lands tenements and hereditaments held of the manor by copy of court roll to use of last will of Math in writing now it appears to homage at this court that said Math died since last court seised of one close or parcel of land called Stoneleys to which Math was admitted tenant at a court held 25.4.1718 after the surrender of Ralph Jossilin and that before his death to wit 26.7.1728 he made his will in writing by which he devised in following english words viz item I give and devise unto my nephew Robt Newman son of my said brother Robt Newman and his heirs forever all my copyhold lands and tenements whatsoever situate lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid now in my own occupation which I lately purchased of mr Gilb Smith and Ralph Joscelyn or either of them after which comes into court said Robt Newman and petitions etc admitted tenant to said close called Stoneyleys late purchased of Ralph Josselin according to tenor of last will etc said Robt is under age 3yr therefore his father Robt Newman is admitted guardian until etc giving an account etc
