at this court it is found by the homage that on the 28.12.1736 Mary Smee widow a daughter and heir of Jos Ward deceased a customary tenant of manor surrendered by rod into hand of lord by hand Wm Carter gentleman in place of bailiff in presence of Jn Osborne and Thos Bullock two customary tenants etc all that customary messuage or tenement with yards orchards and appurtenances late in tenure of Jn Caplyn situate in or by a lane called Colne Lane leading from Earls Colne towards Coggeshall to use of Robt Godfrey of Earls Colne husbandman his heirs and assigns forever whereupon comes into court Robt etc admitted to premises etc made his fealty etc
