Pichards and Brokehole licence to farm letto this court came Jn Cooke of Earls Colne husbandman and brought a certain writing made by the honourable man the lord Jn Veer earl of Oxenford vicount Bulbecke and lord of Badlismere signed and sealed by the said earl the tenor whereof following in these words be it known to all men to whom this present writing shall come that I Jn de Veer earl of Oxenford great chamberlain of England vicount Bulbecke lord of Badlismere and lord of the manors of Earls Colne and Colne Priory in the county of Essex for the sum of 20s to me paid in the name of a fine by Ann Ashefield widow and Wm Ashefield gentleman son of the same Ann have given and granted licence and by these do give and grant licence unto the said Ann and Wm Ashefield to demise grant and to farm let unto Jn Cooke of Earls Colne aforesaid husbandman and his assigns for term of twenty one years next following after the feast of st michael the archangel next coming after the date of these presents all and all manner of such their lands tenements and other hereditaments as they the said Ann and Wm or either of them hold of me the said earl as of my said manor of Earls Colne or Colne Priory or as of either the same manors by copy of my court rolls of the said manors and either of them in witness whereof to these presents I have set my seal given 1.5.1557 etc Oxenford
