fine 8liwhereas at a view with court here held on saturday 14.6.37Eliz1 Edm Potter was admitted tenant to himself and his heirs by the surrender of Wm Garrard to one messuage and a croft of land with a house now built on it and to one garden called Burtons Barn or Burtons Garden with ingress and egress by the gates of the manor leading viz from the highway to Colchester from the said barn by a croft called Bearcroft to carry and recarry by the said gates through the said croft of land and to a tenement with appurtenances called Gentries and also to three crofts of land containing 12a called Bromecrofts and to a croft of land containing 11a with a way leading to the field aforesaid to hunt and chase and to one meadow late parcel of Bearcroft containing 3a with appurtenances lying in Earls Colne aforesaid as shown by copy of court roll now the homage aforesaid present that after the last court viz 21.5.1597 the aforesaid Edm Potter surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Robt Rookes junior instead of the bailiff in the presence of Robt Rookes senior and Hen Bridge two customary tenants of the manor witnessing according to the custom of the manor aforesaid two parcels or pieces of customary pasture called Bromecrofts containing by estimation 5a more or less lying next to a way leading from Earls Colne to Colne Park to the work and use of Xoph Isaack and his heirs on the condition following that if the aforesaid Edm Potter his heirs executors administrators or assigns well and truly pay the aforesaid Xoph his executors administrators or assigns the sum of 14li at the mansion house of the aforesaid Robt Rookes senior situate in Earls Colne aforesaid in or on the feast of st thos the apostle next 21.12.next following the date of this surrender that then the surrender to be void and of no force now they present that after the last court the aforesaid Edm Potter surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Robt Rookes junior in the presence of Robt Rookes senior and Jn Sawen two customary tenants of the manor witnessing according to the custom of the manor aforesaid one croft of land called The Uppermost Bromefield containing by estimation 7a more or less lying between the customary land of Robt Partridge parcel of his tenement called Curds on the west and land called Great Sedcupps against the east and to customary land of Hen Abbott to the south to the work and use of Xoph Isaack and his heirs on a condition that if the aforesaid Edm Potter his heirs executors and assigns pay or cause to be paid to Xoph Isaack his heirs executors or assigns the sum of 11li 17s8d at the mansion house of Robt Rookes in Earls Colne at or before the feast of st barth the apostle 24.8.next then this surrender to be void and of no effect which said Xoph Isaack present here in court is granted the premises by the surrender of the aforesaid Edm Potter to him and his heirs by the form and effect of the surrender aforesaid to hold of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the manor aforesaid by the rents services and customs before due and of right accustomed and he made the lord fine and fealty and is admitted thereof tenant
