indenture made 9.10.1697 witnesseth that Thos Piper and Jn Pratt churchwardens of Earls Colne and Jn Whistow and Jn Last overseers of the poor by the consent of justices of the peace whose names are subscribed have placed Geo Bromfield a poor child of the parish apprentice to Abraham Debart the younger of the parish of St Giles in Colchester with him to dwell till the age of twenty four years aged now 12yrs during which term the apprentice shall serve his master etc and Abraham Debart covenants with the churchwardens etc shall instruct and teach the apprentice the art and mystery of a weaver and shall provide him with food etc and keep the parishioners of Earls Colne indemnified against any charges and at the end of the term will give him two suits of apparel one for work days the other for holy days Abraham Debart Wm Mott Nath Lawrence justices of the peace no witnesses
