this indenture made 16.1.1730 witnesseth that Jn Hatch and Ambrose Towers churchwardens and Thos Sewell and Jn May overseers of Earls Colne have with the consent of justices of the peace put and placed Sam Springate a poor child of the parish apprentice to Nath Leswell of Coggeshall with him to dwell from this day until the age of twenty four years (now aged 17years) during which time to serve his master etc and Nath Leswell covenants to instruct him in the art of a weaver and lodge and feed him and indemnify the parishioners from any charges and at the end of the term provide two suits of apparel etc Nath Leswell witnesses mark Dan Cooke Sam Burton justices of the peace Rich Androwes H Summers
