in the name of god amen the 4.6.1571 I Roger Potter of Earls Colne in the county of Essex husbandman being of whole mind and perfect remembrance laud and praise be unto almighty god do make and ordain this my present testament containing herein my last will in manner and form following that is to say first I commend my soul to almighty god my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried in the earth item I give to Ann my wife a bond which I bought of Rich Messing the sum whereof is 33li6s8d item I give to Ann my wife all the fines that I paid for Rich Parker her son item I give to Edith my daughter 20li of lawful money of England to paid her at her age of twenty years by my executors item I give to Ann my daughter 20li of lawful money of England to paid her at her age of twenty years by my executors item I will that if any of my said two daughters do die before she shall accomplish the age of twenty years that then the other ever living shall have the 20li afore appointed to the daughter so dying item I give to my brother Jn Potter all that my lease for years of a farm called Myles in Earls Colne aforesaid to the intent that my said brother with the profit thereof shall maintain and bring up my said two daughters item I give to my sister Margt's children the sum of 40s apiece that is to say to Thos 40s to Eliz 40s to Edith 40s to Joan 40s and to one that is yet unborn if he or she liveth 40s to paid to them at their age of 20yr and if any of them die before their said age the portion of them so dying to go to the rest that shall survive item I give to Margt my sister my lease for years in one house with the appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid that the widow Belkenope now dwelleth in item I give to my said two daughters over and above the sum to them bequeathed 20marks of current english money to be equally divided between them and to be paid unto them by my executors out of the goods of the said Ann my wife at the day of her marriage or else at the day of her death whichever of them shall first happen item I give to the said Jn Potter my brother all my interest in a farm called Fallingbourne in Cheshire item I give to my said brother a cloak my spanish leather jerkin two holland shirts a red and white my sword and buckler and a red silk hat item I give unto Robt Brewer a lockeram shirt a quilt doublet and a cap item I give to Jn Bonnes a lockeram shirt a frieze jerkin and a cap item I give to Faith Abbott my black satin doublet and to Geo Potter my brother my best black coat all the residue of my apparel I will equally to be divided between Robt Brewer Jn Bonnes Wm Wade my tenants and Jn Clarke my neighbour item I will that Jeff Geo Ann Jn and Margt being my brothers (children) and sisters children shall have all the portions before given to my said two daughters if they both do die before their age of twenty years also I will that my executors hereafter named shall pay all such debts as I owe of right and shall receive all such debts as are due unto me and that they as well for the payment of my said debts as also of my legacies before bequeathed shall presently# after my death sell all the corn now growing upon any of the ground I have sown and such other of my goods as to them shall seem best item I make and ordain my executor of this my last will the said Jn Potter my brother and Jeff Potter my brother and they to have their charges borne over and besides 13s4d equally to be divided between them for my overseer I appoint Wm Maye my brother in law to whom I give for his pains 10s all the residue of my goods unbequeathed after my debts and legacies paid I give unto the said Ann my wife provided always that if the said Ann shall any kind of way disturb my executors or either of them from the due execution of this my last will or do any act whereby my said executors may be hindered to perform this my last will that then all the legacies before to her bequeathed shall be utterly void and that she shall have no benefit thereof in witness whereof I the said Roger Potter have set my mark to these presents their being witnesses Ann my wife Jas Catterall scrivener Jn Harre Jn Hall Rich Harre Wm Wade Jn Munes
