in the name of god amen the 20.12.1591 in the 34Eliz1 etc. I Robt Peartrey of Colne Engaine in the county of Essex husbandman carrier being sick in body and whole in mind thanks be unto almighty god do ordain and make this my present testament and last will in manner and form following that is to say I give my soul into the hands of almighty god my creator and to his son jesus christ his only son my redeemer trusting through his death and passion to receive pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and also I will my body to be buried in christian burial in the parish churchyard of Colne aforesaid item I give unto the poor people of Colne Engaine aforesaid 5s and unto four persons to carry me to church 2s and unto the ringers at my burial 2s item I give and bequeath unto Margery my wife one tenement with the barn and two crofts of land and also one meadow lying between the highway and the river unto Margery my wife during her natural life and after her natural life I give the forenamed tenement with the barn and two crofts of land and meadow unto Wm my son and to his heirs for ever item also I give and bequeath unto my son Wm presently after my decease my other tenement with the stable and also with free passage to carry and recarry from the foresaid tenement unto the river at all times and also my other two crofts of land or pasture lying upon the other side of the highway between the lands of one Wm Crabbe and the lands of Geo Cressalle and to his heirs forever item also I give and bequeath unto Margery my wife one field called Roshe Field and one meadow called Roshe Meadow with all the appurtenances thereto belonging lying in Earls Colne in the said county which lately I bought of Thos Bredge containing by estimation together 16a be it more or less until my two sons Robt and Thos shall come unto their ages of 21years and at their ages of 21years my will and mind is that my forenamed two sons Robt and Thos shall have my foresaid Roshe Field and Roshe Meadow to them and their heirs for ever to be equally divided betwixt them always provided my will and true meaning is that if my foresaid two sons die or any one of them before they come to the age of 21years my mind is that my said wife shall have it still during the whole time of years before named moreover provided if the said Marge my wife decease before the years above named be accomplished then my will is that Robt Cooke mine executor brother shall have the use of it and so to be countable unto my said two sons Robt and Thos item also I give unto my two sons Robt and Thos either of them 40s of lawful english money to be paid unto them by Margery my wife or her assigns at their ages of 21years above mentioned moreover my will and mind is that my father shall have my pasture called Fenos one whole year after my decease upon this condition that he shall not fell nor carry away none of the wood thereon and to pay the lords rent item all the rest of my goods chattels cattles movables or unmovables leases or whatsoever before ungiven or unbequeathed I give and bequeath unto Margery my wife upon the condition that she shall pay all my debts and to bring up my foresaid children honestly and well so far forth as lieth in her and I ordain and make unto this my present testament and last will Margery my wife one of mine executors and Robt Cooke my brother my other executor and I will that Margery my wife shall pay all charges concerning my will in witness whereof I have hereunto set to my hand and seal the day and year above written mark Robt Peartre sealed and delivered in the presence of Robt Rookes Robt Reade Hen Abott
