in the name of god amen the 22.8.3Jas1 I Jn Potter of White Colne in the county of Essex singleman being of perfect health and good memory thanks be to god for the same do make constitute and ordain this as my last will and testament in manner and form following first and before all things I commit my soul to almighty god my maker and creator trusting to be saved by faith in jesus christ my only saviour redeemer and my body to be buried in White Colne aforesaid or elsewhere as it shall please god to appoint otherwise item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of White Colne and unto the poor people of Colne Gayne to either of the said poor people of each town 5s to be distributed unto them by mine executors within one year next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Jeff Potter the son of Jeff Potter (may be Jeff Potter) of Colne White 20s to be paid by mine executors within one year and a half next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Jn Potter Jeff Potter Robt Potter and Jane Potter children unto Jn Potter of Langne my nephew to every of them 20s to be paid by mine executors within one year and a quarter next after my decease item I give unto Marge Alcocke widow 20s and to Agnes Beret and Alice Potter children unto Alice Potter my sister to every of them 20s to be paid by mine executors within one year and a quarter next after my decease item I give unto Isabell Potter my sister 40s to be paid by mine executors within one year and a quarter next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Agnes Beckin my sister 20s and to six of her children to every of them 20s to be paid by mine executors within one year and a quarter next after my decease item I give unto all my godchildren 12d apiece to be paid by mine executors within one year and a half next after my decease all the residue of my goods and chattels movable or unmovable whatsoever not given or bequeathed before my debts and legacies being paid my funeral charges borne and this my will fulfilled I give and bequeath unto mine executors item I will and my mind is that mine executors shall have and take of Robt Potter his heirs executors or assigns 30li which he is to pay by virtue of a deed bearing date the 29.7.1597 unto the fulfilling of my will within one year next after my decease to pay the money and if the money be unpaid that my executors shall have the land and I do ordain and make ILLEGIBLE/> and Jn Potter of Wetherfield executors to see this my will performed and fulfilled in all things in witness whereof I the said Jn Potter have hereunto put my hand and name the day and year first above written in the presence of us Robt Smith and me Andrew Smith mark Thos Upchar mark Thos Abbot Jn Potter
