in the name of god amen the 22.5.1679 I Robt Wright of Earls Colne in the county of Essex yeoman sick of body but of good and perfect memory god be praised do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first I commend my soul into the hands of god my maker hoping assuredly through the only merits of jesus christ my saviour to be made partaker of life everlasting and I commend my body to the earth whereof it is made to be decently buried by my under named executor item I give and bequeath all that my messuage or tenement called or known by the name of Churches with all the lands meadows pastures woods and tofts both freehold and copyhold to the same belonging or in anywise appertaining with their and every their appurtenances lying and being in the parishes of Linsey and Moncksilley in the county of Suffolk unto my son Thos Wright and Mary his wife and to the heirs of the body of the said Thos upon the body of the said Mary begotten and for want of such issue to my son Thos and his heirs forever item I give and bequeath unto Kath my well beloved wife for and during the term of her natural life the yearly sum of 10li of lawful money of England payable half yearly that is to say at the feast day of the annunciation of our blessed virgin mary and michael the archangel by even and equal portions in lieu and satisfaction of her dower or thirds of and into my freehold lands and tenements the first payment to begin the first of the said feast days next ensuing after my decease but if default be made by my son Thos Wright or Mary his wife or their heirs in payment of the said sum of 10li yearly and every year unto my said wife in manner and form aforesaid then my mind and will is that my said wife shall enter into and upon all my said tenement and lands called and known by the name of Churches before bequeathed to my son Thos and Mary his wife except one close called Gosses with Gosses Grove and a parcel of land called Shivedon and shall from time to time distrain until the same be satisfied and paid with the arrearages if any fortune to be unpaid item I give and bequeath unto Kath my wife for term of her natural life the use of my bed and bedding and all and singular the furniture and household stuff now standing and being in my hall chamber and also the use of all other of my household stuff as shall be necessary and needful for her item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Wright the full sum of 60li of lawful money of England to be paid in manner and form following that is to say 20li part thereof within one year next after my decease and 20li more thereof within two years next after my decease and 20li the residue of the said 60li within three years next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Wright the sum of 20li of lawful money of England to be paid within five years next after my decease which said 20li my will and meaning is for the full use and profit of 10li which was bequeathed to my said daughter by the last will and testament of her grandfather Jn Green and came into my hands for her use some years since but if default be made by my son Thos Wright or Mary his wife or their heirs in payment of the said 80li or any part thereof unto my said daughter Mary Wright in manner and form aforesaid then my my (sic) mind and will is that my said daughter shall immediately after such default enter into and upon all those my parcels of land called by the name of Gosses and Gosses Grove before bequeathed to my son Thos Wright and Mary his wife and receive and take the rents and profits of the said lands to her own use until the said 80li together with the use thereof shall be fully satisfied and paid item I give unto my daughter Mary the sum of 10li which was given her by the last will and testament of her grandfather Jn Green late of Chelsworth deceased item I give unto my son Jas Wright the sum of 40s of lawful money of England to be paid him within three months next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my son Jas Wright the sum of 40s yearly and every year for and during the term of his natural life payable half yearly that is to say at the feast day of the annunciation of our blessed virgin mary and st michael the archangel by even and equal portions the first payment to begin the first of the said feast days which shall happen next after my decease but if default be made by my son Thos Wright or Mary his wife or their heirs in payment of the said sum of 40s yearly and every year unto my said son Jas as aforesaid then my mind and will is that my said son Jas Wright shall immediately after such default enter into and upon all those my three pieces or parcels of land lying in a common field called Slivedon and receive and take the rents and profits of the said lands to his own use for and during the term of his natural life item I give unto my three grandchildren Kath Wright Mary Wright and Robt Wright the sum of 5li apiece to be paid when they come to the several ages of 14yr item I give unto my son in law Benj Newman 40s to be paid him within four years next after my decease item I give unto my kinsman Jn Essex 10s to be paid him within six months next after my decease item I give unto the poor people of the parish of Linsey in the county of Suffolk the sum of 20s and to the poor of the parish of Earls Colne the sum of 20s item all the rest of my goods and chattels whatsoever and wheresoever I do give and bequeath unto my son Thos Wright for the paying of my debts and legacies and funeral expenses whom I do appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written sealed and
