in the name of god amen the 1.11.1690 I Hen Hatch the elder of Earls Colne in the county of Essex butcher sick of body but of good and perfect memory god be praised do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first I commend my soul into the hands of god my maker hoping assuredly through the only merits of jesus christ my saviour to be partaker of life everlasting and I commend my body to the earth whereof it is made to be decently buried by my under named executrix item I give and bequeath all that my freehold messuage tenement or farm called Moores and all those six parcels or closes of land and pasture ground to the said messuage tenement or farm belonging called by the name or names of Moores and Garles containing by estimation 10a more or less with their and every of their appurtenances which said premises with their appurtenances are lying and being in Colne Engaine and Pebmarsh or one of them unto Dorothy my well beloved wife for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give the said farm and lands unto my son Hen Hatch and his heirs forever but my will and meaning is that my said son Hen Hatch his heirs executors or administrators shall pay or cause to be paid out of the said tenement farm and lands unto my grandchildren hereafter named that is to say Hen Hatch Jn Hatch Jn Wenden Nath Wenden Hen Wenden Joseph Wenden Dorothy Wenden Jn Christmas and Joseph Christmas the sum of 10li apiece of lawful money of England when they shall attain to their several and respective ages of 21yr and if it shall happen that if any of my said grandchildren shall die and depart this life before they shall attain to their age of 21yr then my will and mind is that the survivors or survivor shall have the part so dying equally to be divided between them and further my will and mind is that if my said son Hen Hatch his heirs executors and administrators do refuse or neglect to pay the said several sums of 10li apiece to my said grandchildren aforesaid that then my will and mind is it be lawful for him or them so unpaid to enter into and upon the said tenement farm and lands and to receive and take the issues rents and profits of them until such time as the said respective sum or sums shall be fully satisfied and paid together with all such charges as they shall be at in and about the recovery of the said money item I give and bequeath all that my customary messuage or tenement called Goulds alias Goldgate and five parcels of land to the said tenement belonging containing by estimation 15a more or less with their appurtenances lying in Earls Colne unto Dorothy my wife for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give the said tenement lands with their appurtenances unto my son Jn Hatch and his heirs forever item I give and bequeath all that my freehold messuage or tenement in several tenements now divided with all the barns stables gardens orchards with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging called or known by the name of Dormots situate and being in Colne Engaine unto Dorothy my wife for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give the said messuage or tenement with the barns stables gardens orchards with their appurtenances unto my daughter Mary Christmas for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease unto my grandchild Jn Christmas and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for default of such issue unto my grandchild Joseph Christmas and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for default of such issue unto my daughter Mary Christmas and her heirs forever item I give and bequeath all that my customary messuage or tenement and certain lands tenements and hereditaments called Lambpitts situate lying and being in Copford unto my executrix to sell for and towards the paying of my debts and legacies and if that the rents and profits that shall arise and grow due out of the said tenement and lands before such sale shall be made shall be assets in the hands of my executrix for paying my debts and legacies item I give and bequeath unto my son Hen Hatch the sum of 5s to be paid within one month next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my son Jn Hatch the sum of 5s to be paid within one month next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Wenden (Sarah ) the sum of 5s to be paid within one month next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Christmas the sum of 5s to be paid within one month next after my decease item all the rest of my goods chattels whatsoever and wheresoever not before bequeathed I give and bequeath unto Dorothy my wife towards the payment of my debts and legacies and funeral expenses whom I do appoint sole executrix of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written Hen Hatch his mark signed sealed published and declared by the above named Hen Hatch the elder to be his last will and testament in the presence of us whose name are hereunder written and was attested and subscribed by
