in the name of god amen I Thos Osborne of Earls Colne in the county of Essex yeoman being weak and infirm in body but of sound disposing mind and memory thanks be given to almighty god for the same and calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life and the certainty of death make and ordain this my writing to contain my last will and testament in manner and form following first and principally I bequeath my soul into the merciful hands of almighty god my creator trusting through the mercy and merits of jesus christ his only son and my alone saviour to attain unto the blessed resurrection of the just at the last day and my body to the earth from whence it was first taken to be decently buried in christian sepulchre at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and as for such worldly goods and substance wherewith it pleased god in mercy far above my deserts to bestow upon me in this life I dispose the same as followeth item I give and bequeath unto Margt Osborne my loving wife the sum of 5s to be paid unto her by my executor hereafter named within one month next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Thos Osborne my eldest son the sum of 5s of lawful money to be paid him by my executor hereafter named within one month next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Edm Osborne my son and to his heirs forever all that my copyhold messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell situate lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid together with all and every the edifices buildings barns stables malthouse kilnhouse outhouses yards gardens orchards pastures ways chaseways to the said messuage belonging and leading to and from the same with their and every of their rights members and appurtenances and also all those my copyhold lands hereafter particular mentioned and expressed by their several names holden of the manor of Colne Pryory by copy of court roll lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid abutting and belonging to my aforesaid copyhold messuage that is to say one parcel of land called the Meadow otherwise Open Feen containing by estimation 3a more or less abutting upon a field called Blaakes Lay otherwise Sandalls on the part of the north and upon a parcel of land called Three Crofts now in the occupation of Thos Tiffin on the east with a garden place where where (sic) there was once a gravel pit containing 3r more or less and also one other parcel of land called the Further Fenn containing by estimation 2a2r more or less abutting upon the aforesaid parcel of land called Three Crofts on part of the east and a parcel of land sometime Thos Hales on the west and also one other parcel of land being pasture ground called Stonefeild containing by estimation 4a more or less adjoining to a parcel of land sometime Thos Hale on part of the south and also one other parcel of land called Homefeild containing by estimation 4a more or less adjoining to the said field or parcel of land called Stonefeild on the part of the east and adjoining to my yard belonging to my said messuage on the west and also one other piece or parcel of land called Little Bishops containing 1a more or less adjoining to a parcel of land called Common Feild on the part of the south and on the aforesaid piece of land called Homefeild on part of the north and also one other piece or parcel of land called Great Bishops containing by estimation 3a more or less adjoining to the highway leading from Earls Colne aforesaid towards Great Coggeshall on the part of the west and another piece or parcel of land called Besoms in the occupation of me the said Thos Osborne on the part of the south and also two chaseways into the aforesaid meadow called Oxen Fenn containing by estimation 2r more or less all which said lands and chaseways before mentioned are all lying and being in the parish of Earls Colne aforesaid and now in the tenure or occupation of me the said Thos Osborne or my assigns item I give and bequeath unto Mary Rayner the wife of Thos Rayner of Earls Colne aforesaid my daughter the full and just sum of 5li of lawful money of England to be paid unto her the said Mary Rayner within six months after my decease by Edm Osborne my son aforesaid his heirs executors administrators or assigns item I give and bequeath unto Sarah Osborne my daughter and to her heirs and assigns forever all that my copyhold messuage or tenement holden on the manor of Earls Colne by copy of court roll which I lately purchased of Jn Austone lying and being in Earls Colne and now in the tenure or occupation of Xoph Fossett or his assigns together with the yards gardens backsides and all and singular the appurtenances to the said copyhold messuage or tenement belongeth item I give and bequeath unto Ann Osborne my daughter if she shall be living at the time of my death the sum of 1s to be paid her by my executor within one month after my decease item all the rest and residue of my goods and chattels whatsoever and wheresoever after my debts legacies and my funeral charges are discharged and paid I give and bequeath the same unto Edm Osborne my son aforesaid whom I do hereby make sole executor of this my last will and testament not doubting in the least of his faithful performance thereof and I do also make and ordain my well beloved friend and kinsman Rich Bridge of Earls Colne aforesaid yeoman to be supervisor to this my present will desiring him to be assistant to my said executor and to see the same performed and I do hereby give unto the said Rich Bridge my kinsman aforesaid for his care and pains the full and just sum of 40s to be paid by my executor within three months next after my decease and I do hereby revoke and annul all and every other and former will or wills by me at any time before made and this and no other to be taken as my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said Thos Osborne have set my hand and seal this 12.1.1696 signed sealed published and declared to
