whereas Thos Ellis of Halsted in the county of Essex son of Rich Ellis of the same town deceased and Margt Unwinn of Earls Colne in the county aforesaid daughter of Giles Unwin of Old Sanford in the county aforesaid having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Coggeshall and Earls Colne according to the good order used among them whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parties and relations concerned now these are to certify all whom it doth or may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 11.10.1691 according to the english account they the said Thos Ellis and Margt Unwinn appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together in their public meeting place at Earls Colne in the county aforesaid and according to the example of the holy men of god recorded in the scriptures of truth he the said Thos Ellis aforesaid taking the said Margt Unwinn by the hand did openly declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and before the assembly I Thos Ellis take Margt Unwinn to be my wife promising to be unto her a loving and faithful husband until it please the lord to separate us by death and then the said Margt Unwinn did in lik e manner declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and before this assembly of you his people I Margt Unwinn take Thos Ellis to be my husband promising to be unto him a loving and faithful wife until it please the lord to separate us by death and the said Thos Ellis and Margt Unwinn as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunder subscribed being present amongst others at the solomnizing and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses thereunto have also to these presents subscribed our own names the day and year above written Thos Ellis Margt Unwin Giles Unwinn Jos Tapp Jn Flood Francis Hunwick Jn Browne Jos Cooke Wm Chapman Abrm Vangaver Jn Maynard Robt Ludgater mr Thos Astin Jn Clarke Jeff Potter Wm Barron Jn Cooke Ann Unwinn Ann Tapp Mary Prigmore Martha Vangaver Kath Cooke Alice Harden Eliz Evens Martha Ludgater Kath Barnard Mary Hawkings Ann Astin etc
