whereas Alex Cannon of Kelvedon in the county of Essex cordwinder and Hester Bowle widow of the same town and county aforesaid having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Coggeshall and Earls Colne according to the good order used amongst them whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof were approved of by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parties and relations concerned now therefore to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 18.11.1691 according to the english account they the said Alex Cannon and Hester Bowle appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and other met together in their public meeting place in Kelvedon aforesaid and according to the example of the holy m en of god recorded in the scriptures of truth in a solomn manner he the said Alex Cannon taking the said Hester Bowle by the hand did openly declare as followeth in the fear of the lord and in the presence of this congregation I take Hester Bowle to be my wife to live with her love her and cherish her until the lord please to separate us by death and then and there in the said assembly the said Hester Bowle did in like manner declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and before you his people I take Alex Cannon to be my husband to live and abide with as a loving and tender wife until the lord please to separate us by death and the said Alex Cannon and Hester Bowle as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present amongst other at the solomnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses thereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Alex Cannon Hester Bowle Robt Yardly Hen Berryman Jn Ludgater Jn Salmon Jn Sanders Jn Biflet Jn Raven Jonas Cockerton Jn Baker Jn Tottrige Thos Croft Wm Mast Jn Bell Thos Pettit Susanna Beryman Sarah Ludgater Eliz Candler Eliz Berryman Mary Keen Eliz Bell Eliz Matthew Mary Tally
