whereas Thos Sewell of Fearing in the county of Essex husbandman son of Rich Sewell deceased and Mary his wife of Coggeshall Magna in the county aforesaid and Eliz Emson of Fearing in the county aforesaid daughter of Jn Emson deceased and Mary his wife both of Old Sanfoard in the county of Essex having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Halsted and Coggeshall Magna in the county of Essex according to the good order used among them whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof with regard unto the righteous law of god and example of his people recorded in the scriptures of truth in that case were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parents and relations and other parties therein concerned now these are to certify all whom it may conc ern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 4.1.1698 according to the english account they the said Thos Sewell and Eliz Emson aforesaid both appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together for that purpose in their public meeting place at Coggeshall Magna in the county of Essex and in a solemn manner he the said Thos Sewell taking the said Eliz Emson aforesaid by the hand did open declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord I desire you to be witnesses that I Thos Sewell do take this my well beloved friend Eliz Emson to be my wife promising unto her to be unto her a loving husband until the lord shall be pleased to separate us by death and then and there in the said assembly the said Eliz Emson aforesaid did in like manner declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord I desire you be my witnesses that I Eliz Emson take this my well beloved friend Thos Sewell to be my husband promising him to be unto him a faithful and loving wife until the lord please to separate us by death and the said Thos Sewell aforesaid and Eliz Emson as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present among others at the solemnizing of their sai d marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses hereunto have to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Thos Sewell Eliz Emson Sarah Finsin Sarah Winter Hannah Bluet Mary Emson Esther Winter Anna Cooke Anna Browning Francis Clark Martha Anthony Jas Emson Rich Harvey Wm Cooke Edm Raven jun Joseph Simpson Wm Stacie Robt Ludgatter jun Sam Ennew Jn Clark Isaac Anthony Jn Browne Wm Drewett Andrew Hills Robt Ludgater Wm Ludgater Jn Garritt Rich Pemberton Jn Ludgater Jn Gage Jn Cooke Wm Mast Thos Garritt Sam Burton
