whereas Joseph Simpson of Coggeshall in the county of Essex glover son of Greg Simpson of Castle Sowersby in Cumberland and Mary Beckwith of Coggeshall aforesaid daughter of Thos Beckwith of the same town and county aforesaid tallowchandler having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Earls Colne and Halsted in the county of Essex according to the good order used among them whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof with regard unto the righteous law of god and example of his people recorded in the scriptures of truth in that case were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of their parents relations and friends therein concerned now these are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said int entions this 15.5.1695 according to the english account they the said Joseph Simpson and Mary Beckwith aforesaid appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together for that end in their public meeting place at Coggeshall in the county of Essex in a solemn manner he the said Joseph Simpson taking the said Mary Beckwith by the hand did openly declared as followeth friends I Joseph Simpson take Mary Beckwith to be my wife in the fear of the lord and before you his people promising to be unto her a faithful and loving husband until it please the lord to separate us by death and then and there in the said assembly the said Mary Beckwith did in like manner declare as followeth I Mary Beckwith take my friend Joseph Simpson to be my husband in the fear of the lord and before you promising to make a faithful and loving wife unto him until the lord separate us by death and the said Joseph Simpson and Mary Beckwith aforesaid as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present among others at the solemnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses hereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Joseph Simpson Mary Simpson Thos Beckwith Thos Beckwith jun Robt Ludgater sen Rich Pemberton sen Mark Cowell Jn Marsh Jn Child Edw Mines sen Jn Ludgater Jn Gage Math Dello Dan Wallis Math Robinson Rich Pemberton jun Jn Jenkins Isaac Anthony Robt Ludgater minor Wm Mast Wm Cook Jn Stacie Geo Youell Ann Beckwith Eliz Went Mary Youell Mary Pollard Hannah Fryett Sarah Ludgater Martha Anthony Mary Ludgater Mary Chandler Mary Mines Ann Beckwith jun
