whereas Jn Gage of Colchester in the county of Essex woolcomber and Sarah Clarke of Little Coggeshall in the county aforesaid spinster having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Coggeshall and Earls Colne according to the good order used amongst them whose proceedings therein after deliberate consideration thereof were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parties and relations concerned now these are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 15.7.1694 the year according to the english account they the said Jn Gage and Sarah Clarke appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together in their public meeting place at Coggeshall aforesaid and according to the example of the holy men of god recorded in the scriptures of truth in solomn manner he the said Jn Gage aforesaid did openly declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and in the presence of you his people I Jn Gage take this my friend Sarah Clarke to be my wife promising to be unto her a loving husband as long as the lord continue us together and then and there in the said assembly the said Sarah Clarke aforesaid did in like manner declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and before you his people I Sarah Clarke take this my friend Jn Gage to be my husband promising by the assistance of god to be unto him a loving and faithful wife until death separate us and the said Jn Gage aforesaid and Sarah Clarke as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present amongst others at the solomnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses thereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Jn Gage Sarah Gage (witness listed in three lists names taken from the left hand list first) Dan Wallis Robt Ludgater sen Robt Ludgater jun Rich Pemberton sen Jn Ludgater Wm Ludgater Jn Fryit Math Dellow Jn Stacie Judith Cockerton Isaac Anthony Mary London Martha Anthony Eliz Cockerton Susannah Bowle Rich Pemberton jun Jn Garrett Ann Wright Eliz Wallis Sarah Wallis Eliz Bard Eliz Guyon Edw Mines sen etc
