whereas Wm Adams and Eliz Christian Wheatly both of Earls Colne in the county of Essex having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Earls Colne and Halsted according to the good order used amongst them whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parties and relations concerned now these are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 17.8.1693 the year according to the english account they the said Wm Adams and Eliz Christian Wheatly appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together in their public meeting place at Coggeshall in the county of Essex and according to the example of the holy men of god recorded in the scriptures of truth in a solomn manner he the said Wm Adams taking the said Eliz Christian Wheatly by the hand did openly declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and before this assembly I Wm Adams take my friend Eliz Christian Wheatly to be my wife promising to be unto her a loving husband until death us part and then and there in the said assembly she the said Eliz Christian Wheatly did in like manner declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and in the presence of you his people I take my friend Wm Adams to be my husband promising to be unto him a loving wife until death separate us and the said Wm Adams and Eliz Christian Wheatly as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present amongst others at the solomnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses thereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Wm Adams Eliz Christian Wheatly Robt Ludgater sen Andrew Hills Thos Turner Jn Ludgater Edw Miller Rich Pemberton jun Math Dellow Sarah Pemberton Eliz Rawling Frances Ludgater Mary Adams Robt Ludgater minor Wm Mast Jn Jenkins Jn Garrett Jn Fryit Isaac Anthony Martha Anthony Rebecca Ludgater Edw Mines sen etc
