whereas Jephtha Child of Felsted in the county of Essex grocer son of Jn Child of the same town and county aforesaid grocer and Rachel Drywood of Coggeshall Magna in the county of Essex daughter of Joseph Drywood sen of the same town and county aforesaid gent having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Earls Colne and Halsted according to the good order use amongst them whose proceeding therein after a deliberate consideration thereof were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parties and relations concerned now these are certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 10.8.1693 the year according to the english account they the said Jephtha Child and Rachel Drywood appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together in their public meeting place at Coggeshall in the county aforesaid and according to the example of the holy men of god recorded in the scriptures of truth in a solomn manner he the said Jephtha Child taking the said Rachel Drywood by the hand did openly declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and in the presence of you his people I Jephtha Child take this friend Rachel Drywood to be my wife promising to be unto her a loving and faithful husband so long as it please the lord to continue us together and then and there in the said assembly the said Rachel Drywood did in like manner declare as followeth friends in the fear of the lord and in the presence of you his people I Rachel Drywood take this my friend Jephtha Child to be my husband promising to be unto him a loving and faithful wife until the lord please to separate us by death and the said Jephtha Child and Rachel Drywood as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present amongst others at the solomnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses thereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Jephtha Child Rachel Drywood Joseph Drywood sen Ann Drywood Thos Drywood Robt Ludgater sen Ellen Clarke Rich Pemberton sen Jn Ludgater Wm Ludgater Sarah Pemberton Jn Jenkins jun Sarah Clarke Thos Turner Andrew Hills Eliz Bacon Ann Turner Edw Mines sen etc
