Robt Bonde of Brentford yeoman aged 80yr deposes that he was servant to Jn earl of Oxford grandfather of the now earl and has known the Great Bridge for seventy years and remember that about sixty seven years since a part of the bridge was broken down by reason of a great flood and being so decayed one Abell prior at Earls Colne did repair the bridge at his own charge and did find the timber and he thinks that the prior repaired the bridge in regard of the Priory of Earls Colne which he then held and he further says that the bridge was in decay about 3Eliz1 and that Jn earl of Oxford deceased father of the now earl did repair the same and made new arches of brick and stone and that at the time of the repairing the said earl had the Priory of Earls Colne and he does not remember that at any time when the bridge was repaired by the said prior or earl any contribution was made to others for the repairing of the said bridge
