whereas at a court here held 3.1.1667 Rich Hatch was admitted to him and his heirs to 1a of land more or less late parcel of a tenement called Higgens lying at Holt Street in Earls Colne and at a court here held 18.1.1649 the said Rich Hatch was admitted to him and his heirs to one messuage or tenement and garden with appurtenances called Sextons Tenement and at a court here held 29.10.1678 the said Rich Hatch surrendered into the hands of the lord all his customary lands and tenements held of the manor aforesaid to the uses and intentions in his last will now at this court it appeared to the homage that the said Rich Hatch died after the last court so seised upon which to this court came Robt Potter and showed the last will of the said Rich Hatch made 20.9.1678 the tenor concerning the premises in these english words following item I give and bequeath my copyhold close lying by the pound in Earls Colne purchased of Heyward and now in my own occupation to my son in law Robt Potter and Susanna his wife during the term of their natural lives and after their decease to Isaac Potter one of their sons and his heirs and assigns forever and in case Isaac Potter shall happen to die without heirs of his body then I give and bequeath this said close and tenement to Jas Potter brother of the said Isaac upon which the said Robt Potter and Susanna his wife humbly petitioned admittance etc to whom by the steward there is seisin delivered to have and to hold the aforesaid messuage and parcel of land and all and singular the premises to the said Robt Potter and Susanna his wife during the term of their lives to remain as expressed in the will aforesaid etc and they gave the lord part of the fine etc the residue respited until their deaths etc
