at a court held 27.4.1691 Jn Newton was admitted to one messuage and garden situate in Holt Street then in the tenure of Jn Somerfield and at a court held 30.4.1717 it appeared that the said Jn on 13.12.1716 surrendered by the hands of Solomon Grimston deputy steward all his customary lands to the use of his last will and at a court held 4.6.1717 it appeared that he died before that court upon which came Ann wife of Sam Oakely and daughter of the said Jn and showed the will of the said Jn dated 13.12.1716 the tenor concerning the premises in the following words item I give and devise unto my said daughter Ann Oakely and her heirs forever all that my copyhold messuage or tenement wherein Jn Somerfield sometime dwelt with all the yards and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in Earls Colne aforesaid and now in the occupation of Abraham Hayles who was admitted etc and gave fine
