whereas at a court here held the saturday in the week of pentecost being 14.6.1595 Clem Conney took for himself and his heirs by the surrender of Wm Prentis one cottage with appurtenances called Copes lying between a certain messuage of Steph Miller of one part and the garden of Jn Wrighte on the other part one head thereof abutting upon the kings highway leading from the said Colne towards Colchester upon condition that the said Clem Conney his heirs executors or assigns should pay or cause to be paid to the aforesaid Wm Prentis his executors or assigns the sum of 12li at or within the south doorway of the church porch at Colne in the manner and form as is shown in the surrender now to this court came the said Wm Prentis and in full and open court acknowledged himself to have received and taken from the aforesaid Clem Conney the said sum of 12li in the manner and form as in the first place in the said surrender and condition and he was fully paid and satisfied concerning the same said sum and the said Clem Conney his heirs executors and administrators are fully acquitted and released thereof forever by the payment
