Humfries | whereas at a court here held the wednesday in easter week being 19.4.1598 Alice wife of Nich Peirce and Joan Leffingwell sister of the said Alice were admitted tenants of the lord for themselves and their heirs to one messuage sometime of Jn Humfrey situated and lying in the said Earls Colne as by copy of a roll of the said court brought here into court and shown fully binding and certain now to this court came the aforesaid Nich Pierse and Alice his wife and the aforesaid Joan and Thos Smyth now her husband the aforesaid Alice and Joan separately examined in full and open court by the said steward according to the custom of the said manor and surrendered the said premises with appurtenances into the hands of the lord by the hands of his said steward to Thos Pryor to the sole use and behoof of Jn Pryor son of the said Thos his heirs and assigns forever who the same said Thos present here in court humbly sought admittance to the said premises to the use and behoof as stated above to whom the lord by his said steward granted to him seisin thereof to have to him to the use and behoof of the aforesaid Jn Pryor his heirs and assigns forever to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine and fealty was respited until etc and he was admitted thereof tenant of the lord |
