it is shown by the homage that Hen Wright out of court viz 17.11.1623 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Jn Pilgrim instead of the bailiff in the presence of Thos Harlakenden and Jn Bridge two customary tenants of this same manor the same testifying according to the custom of the said manor all that cottage or tenement yard and orchard with appurtenances pertaining to the same which same said premises the aforesaid Hen took to himself and his heirs at a court here held 8.4.1620 to the use and behoof of Jn Dedman of the said Earls Colne and Mary his wife for and during the term of the lifetime of Jn and Mary and of the longer liver and the heirs of Jn Dedman himself forever to whom the same said Jn Dedman present here in court and Mary his wife through Jn Griggs her deputy the lord by his said steward granted and delivered seisin thereof by the rod to have to themselves the aforesaid Jn and Mary for and during their lifetime and to the longer liver and to the heirs of Jn himself to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents customs and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and the said Jn and Mary gave to the lord their fine as etc and the said Jn made fealty to the lord and they were admitted etc but the fealty of the aforesaid Mary was respited etc
