and furthermore at this court it is shown by the homage that Rich Allen and Eliz his wife customary tenants of this manor to themselves and the heirs of the said Eliz according as it is clearly shown by the court roll dated 15.4.1623 after the last court and before this court viz 5.7.1632 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Jn Reade instead of the bailiff in the presence of Wm Bricke and Dan Lea two customary tenants of the said manor according to the custom of the said manor one cottage or tenement with garden adjoining the said cottage with appurtenances known by the name of Brayes in which Francis Neve then lived to the use and behoof of Thos Rampton and his heirs forever upon condition that the said Thos Rampton his heirs executors or assigns pay or cause to be paid to the said Rich Allen or Eliz his wife the sum of 4li in or by the day of the next general court held for the manor and furthermore it is shown by the homage that the said Thos Rampton paid the said Eliz the said 4li by the day of this court in full and open court according to the said conditions and the said Eliz comes into this court and is solely and secretly examined by the said steward as the custom is after which the said Thos Rampton humbly seeks admittance to whom the lord by his said steward grants and delivers seisin by the rod to have to himself and his heirs forever to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and thus he is admitted tenant and after wards in this court and the court sitting came the said Thos Rampton and surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of his said steward the said cottage and other premises with appurtenances to the use of the said Thos and Judith his wife and the heirs and assigns of the said Thos forever to whom the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have the said cottage and other premises with appurtenances to the said Thos Rampton and Judith and the heirs of the said Thos forever to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and they gave to the lord their fealty and fine for admittance the said Thos and Judith were assessed by the court at 50s to be paid to the lord of the manor or his assigns in or by the next all saints feast following the date of this court at the mansion house of the said lord and for security of the said 50s Thos Rampton surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of the said steward the said cottage and other premises with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Rich Harlakenden lord of the said manor and his heirs forever upon the condition that the said Thos Rampton his heirs or assigns pay the said Rich Harlakenden the said 50s upon the day and at the said place then the said surrender is to be void
