whereas at a court here held 30.10.1633 Thos Shepard clerk was admitted tenant of the lord to himself and his heirs to one customary cottage and about 9a of customary land called Chewneyland as is clearly shown by the said court roll now at this court it is shown by the homage that after the last court and before this court viz 1.9.1634 the said Thos Shepard surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Edw Clarke instead of the bailiff in the presence of Wm Nevill and Edw Cressner gentleman two customary tenants of the said manor according to the custom of the said manor the said cottage and 9a of land with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Jane Clench of Earls Colne widow her heirs and assigns forever to whom the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have the said cottage and other premises to herself and her heirs forever to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and she gave to the lord her fine and made fealty and was admitted thereunto tenant
