and further at this court it was presented by the homage that Jn Ward who held to him and his heirs one messuage with the appurtenances called Shawes situate upon Colneford Hill and a parcel of land enclosed with pales containing by estimation 20p and adjoining to the said messuage towards the west since the last court that is to say upon 30.10.last did surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of Wm Adams the elder in place of the lord's bailiff and in the presence of Ambrose Waller and Giles Crowe two customary tenants of the said manor the same witnessing the said messuage and the said parcel of land with all the barns stables edifices gardens orchards and appurtenances to the said messuage belonging to the use of Jas Day of Earls Colne miller his heirs and assigns who being present in court humbly prayed to be admitted tenant of the said messuage and premises to whom the lord of the said manor by his said steward did grant and deliver seisin thereof by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage parcel of land and all other the premises with their appurtenances to the said Jas Day his heirs and assigns of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs formerly due and of right accustomed and he gave to the lord for his fine
