whereas at a court held for the said manor 28.12.1640 Abigail then the wife of Edw Stanley and formerly the wife of Jn Brewer deceased was admitted tenant for the term of her life to one cottage with the yards gardens and backsides with the appurtenances to the same belonging the remainder thereof to Hugh Brewer and to the heirs of his body and for default of such issue to Jn Clerke sister's son of the said Jn Brewer and to his heirs forever by virtue of the surrender of the said Jn Brewer to the use of his last will and testament and according to the tenor of the last will and testament of the said Jn Brewer bearing date 8.3.1639 now at this court it was presented by the homage that the said Hugh Brewer is dead without issue and that the said Abigail by the name of Abigail Cowning widow since the last court did surrender the said premises into the hands of the lord of the said manor according to the custom of the said manor to the use of Jn Clerke and his heirs and thereupon the said Jn Clerke being present in court desired to be admitted tenant to the said premises in possession and to his remainder of and in the same to whom the lord of the said manor did grant and deliver thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said cottage and premises to the said Jn Clerke his heirs and assigns of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs due and of right accustomed and he gave to the lord for a fine for both the estates and did his fealty
