at this court it was presented by the homage that Edw Clerke since the last court that is to say upon 18.10. did surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of Jn Merriton in place of the bailiff and in the presence of Wm Adams the elder and Wm Adams the younger two customary tenants of the said manor the same witnessing etc one cottage long since built upon the waste containing in length 7rod and in breadth 2rod one head or part thereof abutting upon a spring of water the other head or part abutting upon a parcel of freehold land of Hen Abbott called Longland towards the south and lying between another parcel of freehold land of the said Hen called Bronnes Croft towards the east by the said spring and upon the highway leading from The Hayhouse towards Colne Park right over against another parcel of freehold land of the said Hen called Cottcroft towards the north to the use of the said Hen Abbott and of his heirs and assigns forever which premises the said Edw did take to him and his heirs at a court held for the said manor 18.4.1620 which said Hen being present in court desired to be admitted tenant of the same to whom the lord of the said manor by his said steward hath granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said cottage with the appurtenances to the said Hen his heirs and assigns forever of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents and services due and he gave to the lord for his fine
