at this court it was shown by the homage that Mary Pake spinster customary tenant of the said manor after the last court viz 2.4.1664 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Robt Finch junior instead of the bailiff and in the presence of Wm Adams senior and Robt Finch senior two customary tenants of the said manor the same testifying etc all that parcel of land or garden plot upon which a cottage was lately built with appurtenances lying next to the cemetery of the church of Earls Colne and abutting upon the yard late of Wm Bridge and now of Rich Hatch junior towards the north west and now in the tenure of the said Mary to the use and be hoof of Jn Scott of Earls Colne carpenter his heirs and assigns forever but because the said Jn did not come to take the premises from the hands of the lord after proclamation was three times made therefore according to the custom of the said manor there was a precept to the bailiff of the said manor to seize the premises into the hands of the lord etc
