at court 2.1.18Chas2 Jn Scott and Mary his wife were admitted to one cottage lately built and one parcel of land lying next to the churchyard of Earls Colne abutting on a yard once Wm Bridge's and then Rich Hatch junior with appurtenances now at this court it appeared that Jn Scott on 31.1.1680 surrendered by the hands of Sam Burton instead of the bailiff in the presence of Humph Ruggles and Jn Finch etc the said cottage etc to the use of Rich Appleton of Earls Colne carpenter and his heirs forever and it appeared that the said Mary died before this court upon which Rich Appleton was admitted etc and gave the lord fine and made fealty
