at a court held 18.4.1693 Wm Downes and Eliz his wife were admitted to them and to heirs of said Eliz to one messuage or tenement with yards gardens orchards pertaining to said tenement called Brayes situate in a street called the Church Street in Earls Colne which Wm Downes before this court died now at this court etc Eliz Downes on 24.11.1711 surrendered by the rod into hand of the lord by hand of Hen Adams senior in place of the bailiff in presence of Geo Potter and Hen Adams junior two customary tenants etc the tenement with yards gardens and orchards pertaining with all and singular appurtenances and then in possession of said Eliz Downes and held of this manor by copy of court roll and all other customary messuages lands and tenements which Eliz Downes held of the said manor to use of Sam Bott of Earls Colne in the county of Essex maltster heirs and assigns forever after comes into court said Sam Bott and humbly petitions etc admitted to premises etc gives lords fine etc
