fine 40swhereas at the court with the leet here holden on monday being the 21.6.10Eliz1 etc Jn Knight and Kath his wife were admitted the lord's tenants to them and the heirs of the said Jn to a capital messuage with garden and curtilage adjoining sometime called Sonningwells with a tenement adjoining called Tabors with appurtenances lying in Earls Colne aforesaid as by meets and bounds more at large is divided and shown as by the rolls of the same court appeareth now to this court came the foresaid Jn Knight and Kath his wife and the said Kath being alone and secretly examined by the steward aforesaid surrendered unto the lord's hands by the hands of his steward aforesaid the said messuage and all and singular the premises aforesaid with all and singular their appurtenances to the use and behoof of the same Jn and Kath for term of their liv es and the longer liver of them and after their decease then to the use of the foresaid Robt Knight son of the said Jn and Kath and the heirs of the said Robt for ever to which Jn Kath and Robt there is seisin granted of the premises to have and to hold to the same Jn and Kath for term of their lives and the longer liver of them and after their decease to remain to the foresaid Robt Knight and his heirs forever of the lord by the rod to the will of the lord according to the custom of this manor by the rents and services and customs therefore due and accustomed and the foresaid Jn Kath and Robt made fine etc and are admitted tenants
