(in latin) know all men by these writings that I Thos Cawche of Earls Colne carpenter salute you etc know that I Thos Cawche for the sum of 21li in hand paid by Robt Ennowse of Earls Colne aforesaid fully paid all heirs of Robt Ennowse acquitted from any payment for all that my tenement and garden with an orchard adjoining and all other lands appertaining to the tenement and all and singular the appurtenances of late or late called Workemans lying and existing in Earls Colne between a tenement once of Jn Senold late of Thos Routh now of Rich Routh senior on the east part and of a tenement of Geo Chatterton new built once parcel of the aforesaid tenement on the west part one head abuts on a croft of land called Dowscroft on the north and the other head on the way leading to Halstead from Colchester to the south which tenement and garden and orchard aforesaid and all and singular the appurtenances were late belonging to Thos Chatterton late of Earls Colne aforesaid joiner who released and confirmed to me at Earls Colne 4.12.5Eliz1 more plainly appears to have and to hold the tenement and garden and orchard and all and singular the appurtenances to the aforesaid Robt Ennowes his heirs and assigns of the chief lord of the fees by all services due and of right accustomed to the sole work and use of the said Robt Ennowes and his heirs forever and I the aforesaid Thos Cawche and my heirs my aforesaid tenement and garden with orchard and all and singular the appurtenances warrant and will defend Robt Ennowes against any interruption sealed by me 9.10.5Eliz1
