to all christian people to whom these presents shall come Thos Barnard of Earls Colne cleric vicar of the parish church of Earls Colne aforesaid Jn Hatch and Oliver Johnson churchwardens of the said parish for the year 1734 1735 and 1736 Wm Harvey and Jn Page overseers of the poor of the parish for the year 1734 Edw Wash and Jas Vince overseers for the year 1735 Thos King and Sam Smith overseers for this present year 1736 Thos Sewell and Jn Newton Jn Harrington and Sam Burton inhabitants of the parish of Earls Colne do send greeting whereas Mary Poynter late of the parish of St Andrews Holborn Middx widow in and by her last will and testament in writing bearing date 17.11.1733 did give and bequeath unto the overseers of the poor of the parish of Earls Colne aforesaid the sum of 300li to be laid out by them as soon as might be after her death in the purchase of lands of inheritance and she did declare her will to be that the rents and profits of the said lands when purchased and the interest of the said sum of 300li till the sum should be laid out in the purchase of an estate in land should be yearly distributed by the overseers of the poor of the said parish for the time being from time to time in such proportions as they should think proper to and amongst such poor person or persons who are inhabitants of the said parish and who do not receive alms from the said parish and of her said will appointed sir Wm Halton of Putney Surrey bt executor and whereas the said Mary Poynter departed this life on or about the 30.10.1734 and whereas the said Wm Halton did on 5.6.1735 pay into the hands of the said Thos Sewell 200li in part of and towards the discharge of the said legacy which has been since laid out at interest whereas the said sir Wm Halton hath on the day of the date hereof pursuant to an order of vestry made this day paid unto us the sum of 100li being the remaining part and in full of the said legacy of sum of 300li now know ye that we the said Thos Barnard Jn Hatch Oliver Johnson Wm Harvey Jn Page Edw Wash Jas Vince Thos King Sam Smith Thos Sewell Jn Newton Jn Harrinton and Sam Burton do hereby acknowledge to have received of and from the said sir Wm Halton the sum of 100li which with the sum of 200li paid as aforesaid we acknowledge ourselves fully satisfied and paid the said 300li legacy in and by the said last will and testament of the said Mary Poynter so given and bequeathed as aforesaid and thereof and every part thereof we and every one of us doth acquit release exonerate and discharge the said sir Wm Halton his executors and administrators by these presents witness our hands this 21.6.1736 Thos Bernard vicar Jn Hatch Oliver Johnson Wm Harvey Jn Page Edw Wash Jas Vince Thos King Sam Smith Thos Sewell Jn Newton Jn Harrington Sam Burton Jn Unwin Ambrose Wright Jn Leaper Jn Brett mark Hen May
