in the name of god amen the 16.11.1559 I Thos Pullen of Earls Colne etc do make this my will etc first I commit my soul to almighty god etc item I give to four poor men to carry me to church every one of them 12d item I give to be bestowed at the day of my burial a seam of corn baked in bread and a hogshead of drink item I give to every of the ringers 6d and meat and drink item I give to the lazer house in Colchester a load of wood to be delivered unto them yearly at the feast of michaelmas during the space of five years item I give to Denise my wife the lease of my farm in Patiswike during the years thereof if she live so long and if she die before the said years be expired then I will the said lease shall remain to Jane Bolter and her heirs during the years thereof item I give to my said wife all the corn and cattle of the said farm ground of Patteswike upon this condition that she pay to my son Thos Pullen at his age of 15yr 20li and to Nich Botler a cow to Jane Bolter a cow and to Martha Bolter a cow and every of them to be the others heirs and if my said son Thos die before the said 15yr be expired then I will the said 20li shall wholly remain to Thos Bridge my other executor to pay yearly to him or his assigns to the poor people of Earls Colne Dunneland and Colchester 20s forever item I give to my said wife all my household stuff except and reserved to my son Thos Pullen at the age of 15yr my best featherbed bolster a pair of blankets a pair of sheets the best covering two pillows two pillowberes the best bedstead and best tester and if my said son chance to die before the said 15yr then I will that the said bed with all that belongeth to it shall remain to the next of my blood item I give to my said son a dozen spoons and a salt of silver and gilt to be delivered to him likewise at his age of 15yr and if he happen to die before the said term then I will the said spoons and salt shall remain to the foresaid Nich Jane and Martha Bolter and to their heirs item I give to my brother Hen Pullen 10s and to Jane Pullen his daughter 6s8d to Robt his son 6s8d item to Marge Albon 6s8d and to her son Hen 12d item to Jn Bounde my bow arrows and sword item to Jn Davie 6s8d item to Thos Pecoke a pair of hose and a pair of buskins to Wm Crabbe 2s item to my son Thos Pullen all that my tenement called Jakes a piece of ground called Popes Hatch and other garth with all and every their appurtenances to him and his heirs forever and if my said son Thos die before the age of 15yr then I will my wife shall have it during term of her natural life and after the decease of her I will all the said tenement and lands with their appurtenances shall remain wholly to my brother Hen Pullen and his heirs forever item I will that my lands at Much Tey be sold by my executor for the best price that can be made of it to any man that will buy it to have to them and to their heirs forever the money thereof to go to the payment of my debts and performance of this my will item I give to my wife my lease mill in Earls Colne to the bringing up of my son Thos Pullen to school to learn to read and write to sing and play of instruments as he shall be found most apt to also other learning for his furtherance till he come to the age of 15yr keeping the said mill in all manner of reparations and paying the lords rent and if my said son die before the said 15yr be come I will my wife shall have and enjoy the said mill with all the premises unto the end and term of the said lease and if my said wife do happen to marry my son being alive then I will my said son and the mill shall be at the ordering of Thos Bridge my other executor unto the end of the said 15yr and at the end of the said 15yr I will my said son shall have the said mill with the appurtenances in his own hands to make the best he can by himself or his counsel and if both my son and my wife die before the said 15yr then I will the said mill with the appurtenances shall remain to my brother Hen Pullen and his heirs during all the years thereof the rest of all my goods movable and not movable not bequeathed I give to my wife and Thos Bridge to the payment of my debts and performance of this my testament I make my said wife and Thos Bridge my executors to see all things done according to my desire and I give to my wife a gold ring and to Thos Bridge 20s and I make mr Hen Goulding my supervisor and I give him for his pains my half bote at the end of Jonson's bargain and if there be any controversy to be found in this my will I will it be explained by my executors and none other witnesses Robt Person Geo Beystone Jn Ward Adam Pullen etc
