in the name of god amen the 30.6.1559 I Jn Grene of Hay House of Earls Colne in the diocese of London being of whole mind and memory excepting my corruptible body after the cause of mortal creatures to deffade# away destitute of his natural powers by gods visitation do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following first I bequeath my soul to almighty god my redeemer whose mercy I trust to be saved and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Earls Colne aforesaid item I give and bequeath unto Thos Grene the elder my son all that my tenement and garden with the appurtenances set lying and being in Holt Street in Colne aforesaid to him his heirs and assigns with this condition that he the said Thos the elder my son his heir executors or assigns within two years after that he or they hath had possessed of the same tenement and garden with the appurtenances shall pay or cause to be paid to Wm Grene the younger and to Thos Grene the younger my two sons to every of them 20s and if any of my said two sons shall fortune to decease before the said 20s be due to be paid to them that then the one of them to have the other's part and it is my will that if they both my two sons shall fortune to decease before the said time that their money should be due to be paid to them that then his and their part thereof shall be paid and divided amongst all my daughters then living to every of them part and part like the surrender whereof I have delivered according to the same to the hand of the hands of the lord by the hands of two customary tenants in the presence of the lord's bailiff and others etc item I do give and bequeath unto Thos Grene the elder and Jn Grene my two sons all my interest and term of years that I have in my farm by the good will of my that and to his favour they together to occupy and have the same to their most perfect advantage etc item I give to Wm the elder my son my black gray horse called Gryme a red cow called Lomkyn a seam of bearded corn a seam of barley item I give to Wm Grene the younger my son a cow a bullock three sheep a seam of barley and a seam of bearded corn item I give to Thos Grene the elder my son three wennels and to Thos Grene the younger my son two beasts a wennel three sheep a seam of barley and a seam of bearded corn item I do give and bequeath to Marion Grene my daughter a cow a wennel two sheep a seam of barley and a seam of bearded corn and to Ann Grene my daughter a cow a wennel two sheep a seam of barley a seam of bearded corn and to Ellen Grene my daughter two beasts six lambs a wennel a seam of barley and a seam of bearded corn and these foresaid cattle and corn to be delivered by mine executors and supervisor to the help of others my neighbours immediately after my decease my testament being proved and as my executors may have all things and according to the time conveniently to perform the same item I do give to Jn Grene my godson a red bullock of three years age and two sheep also I will that Jn Grene and Thos Grene the elder my two sons shall pay to Ann Marion and Ellen my daughters and to Thos Grene the younger my son and to every one of them 20s to be paid to every of them by the said Jn and Thos the elder out of the movable goods and cattle as I shall and do give and bequeath to them here following to be paid to them the said Ann Marion and Ellen and Thos the younger within one year after my decease and if any of my eldest daughters do decease before the time that this said money ought to be paid that then I will that their part shall be divided between Ellen and Thos the youngest and if Ellen and the said Thos die before the said time that then I will the one of them to have the other's part also I will that my household stuff as bedding brass pewter and such other like appurtenances to household stuff divided amongst all my children the two youngest always to have their choice etc item I do give and bequeath unto the foresaid Jn Grene and Thos Grene the elder my two sons all those my cart horses and my cart nag and all such cart harness and halters that I have and as do belong to the said horses that they shall have with all my carts tumbrels ploughs plough harness and chains and all that ever I have belonging to husbandry and all the residue of my goods not given as movables cattle corn debts implements utensils my debts being paid my body being reverently and decently (torn) and all these my said legacies and last will performed fulfilled according to this my testament and last will I give them and bequeath them to the forenamed Jn Grene and Thos Grene the elder my two sons to their executors and administrators and assigns which said Jn and Thos I do make and ordain to be mine executors of this my last will and testament to perform and fulfil the same well and truly and I do ordain and make Barth Church my supervisor of this my said testament and last will and to be as a guide and stay to my executors and they to see him pleased for his pains these being witnesses Jn Lephingwell Thos Lephingwell Jn Hopper Geo Beyce with others at Colne foresaid the day and year above written
