in the name of god amen the 6.4.1605 I Sam Brewer of Much Tey in the county of Essex yeoman being sick of body but whole mind and perfect remembrance thanks be unto almighty god do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following revoking hereby all former wills and testaments by me heretofore made that is to say first I commend my soul in to the hands of almighty god my maker redeemer and sanctifier and my body to the earth from whence it came to be buried at the discretion of mine executor hereunder named item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of Much Tey aforesaid the sum of 15s of lawful english money to be distributed unto them at the discretion of mine executor item I give and bequeath unto Wm Brewer my eldest son one parcel of free land called Great Slowefield three other parcels of free land called Goses lying in Much Tey aforesaid item I give unto the said Wm one other parcel of free land called Wades Fenne lying in Pontesbright alias Chappell parish one other parcel of free land called Little Slowefield lying in Earls Colne to have and to hold all and singular the aforementioned premises with all and singular their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Wm Brewer his heirs and assigns forever item I give and bequeath unto mark Sam Brewer read and sealed in the presence of mark Wm Brewer mark Rich Wade mark Jn Brewer (inserted) Wm my son all my copyhold lands and tenements called Lamberdes lying in Much Tey aforesaid to have and to hold the same their appurtenances unto the said Wm his heirs and assigns forever item I give and bequeath unto Sam Brewer my son all my copyhold lands lying in Earls Colne called Debnams with their appurtenances to have and to hold the same unto the said Sam his heirs and assigns forever item I give and bequeath unto Jn Brewer my son my house and tenement called Wilbyes and Motwyns and one pightle of land called by the name of Holpightell with half an acre of meadow lying in Reymeadwe being free and are situate lying and being within the parishes of Much Tey and Chappell parish aforesaid to have and to hold all and singular the said premises with their appurtenances unto the said Jn Brewer his heirs and assigns forever item I give and bequeath unto Anne Brewer my daughter 100li to be paid by mine executor within one and twenty days next after my decease over unto my cousin Jn Brewer sen whom I will shall have the ordering of the said 100li for the best preferment of my said daughter until she shall accomplish her full age of eighteen years as touching all my debts goods chattels implements of household mark Sam Brewer read and sealed in the presence of mark Wm Brewer mark Rich Wade mark Jn Brewer (inserted) household stuff corn cattle and ready money and all those things my debts paid my funeral discharged and this my will performed I give and bequeath unto Anne Brewer my wife Wm Sam and Jn Brewer my sons to be equally divided amongst them part and part alike item I do constitute and appoint Wm Brewer my son my sole executor to this my last will and testament item my mind and meaning is that if Wm my son shall refuse to take upon the execution of this my will that then Sam my son shall be mine sole executor in witness whereof I have to every leaf hereof put my hand and seal in the presence of those whose names are hereunder written viz of read and sealed in the presence of mark Wm Brewer mark Rich Wade mark Jn Brewer mark Sam Brewer this testament proved the 17.4.1605 before the venerable mr Jn Sewell doctor of laws official etc by an oath of the executor who exhibited an inventory of the goods 116li18s8d
