Copyhold of Priory - quitrent 10s Jonathan Hutley 7.11.1843 on surrender of Jas Cowlin and Charlotte his wife - to all that field called Middle Field - also all that field called Long Field - also all that croft adjoining to the said field called Middlefield and abutting north on a chaseway - also all those two closes called Great Field and The Fenn - together by estimation 16a
1732 Thos Hales death of mother Margt (Ann) will of father Thos
1778 Dan Leaper surrender of Thos Hales
1783 Mary Leaper will of uncle Dan
1795 Jas Cowlin surrender of Dan Cowlin and wife Mary (sometime Mary Leaper )
Commutation map 1836 no. 268 (268) 278 (278) 285 (285) 286 (286) 287 (287) together 17a1r19p - no. 282 (282) is mentioned in the old Terrier as copyhold. I am satisfied by seeing the free deed that it must be freehold. It is called Home or Stable Field abutting on the road and contains 2a37p leaving 17a1r19p copyhold. Mr Hutley through his solicitors messrs. Blood and Douglas protested against this quantity being mentioned in the rolls - which is nonsense - as quantity is by estimation and always liable to readmeasurement at the wish of the lord or tenant
There is some error about the quitrent:- Thos Hales held this with another field of 4a called Stonefield the quitrent for the whole was 15s in 1782 He surrendered Stonefield to Dan Leaper - the quitrent thereon does not appear to be apportioned in the rolls. It is now parcel of mr R.H. Solley's possessions and pays 3s quitrent which should have left 12s for Boomes instead of 10s
