at a court held 11.12.1677 Jn Cressener gentleman was admitted to one aldercarr called Tilekiln Fen lying between a croft called Wellcroft on one part one head abuts on parcel of Lowfield and the other head on the highway at Tilekiln as by metes and bounds divided and at a court held 9.3.1686 the said Jn was admitted to one cottage with appurtenances called Middlehouse once Eliz Browne's situate in Holt Street and at a court held 22.3.1699 the said Jn was admitted to one messuage or tenement and garden belonging called Le George situate in Earls Colne now in the occupation of Robt Warren or his assigns and held by the annual rent of 6s and at the last court here held 30.4.last it appeared that the said Jn died after the last court and while alive on 4.7.1715 he surrendered by the hands of Sam Burton instead of the bailiff in the presence of Jn Hatch senior and Robt Harris all his customary lands to the use of his will upon which proclamation was made now at this court came Edw Cressener gentleman only brother of the said Jn deceased and showed the will of the said Jn dated 25.1.1709 the tenor concerning the premises in the following words viz I give and bequeath unto my brother Edw Cressener and to his heirs forever all that messuage or tenement with appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid now in the occupations of Jn Ludgater clerk together with the perpetual gift of the free school and also one piece of parcel of copyhold ground formerly called a marsh the greater part whereof is now a hopground in Earls Colne aforesaid in my own occupation adjoining the house and yard in the occupation of Jn Patrick also one copyhold cottage or tenement with appurtenances situate in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupation of Eliz Palmer also one copyhold messuage or tenement with the yards and appurtenances thereunto belonging commonly called The George in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupation of Robt Warren which I lately purchased of Edw Warren also one messuage or tenement with appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupation of Hester Parker (may be Hester Parker) and Eliz Manning to hold to him my said brother Edw Cressener and his heirs forever as shown etc upon which the said Edw was admitted etc and gave fine etc
