and furthermore at this court it is shown by the homage that Thos Smith who held for himself and his heirs one messuage or customary tenement called Francis with garden adjoining with appurtenances as is shown by copy of court roll dated 6.2.1631 after the last court viz 1.8.1639 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Jn Reade junior instead of the bailiff in the presence of Jn Reade senior and Edw Browne two customary tenants of the said manor according to the custom of the said manor the said messuage or tenement and garden with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Agnes Somerson wife of Francis Sommerson for her lifetime and after her death to the use and behoof of Thos Somerson son of the said Francis and Agnes and the heirs and assigns of the said Thos Somerson forever upon which came here into court the said Agnes and humbly sought admittance to whom the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage and garden with appurtenances to the said Agnes and her assigns for her lifetime from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the customs of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and she gave to the lord her fine and made fealty and was admitted tenant
