furthermore whereas at a court here held 27.12.1638 Wm Stanes and Susanna his wife were admitted tenants of the lord for themselves and the heirs of the said Wm to one croft of land with barn built thereon with appurtenances called Jakes containing about 1a2r of land with appurtenances as is shown by the said court roll now at this court it is shown by the homage that the said Susanna before this court died and that the said Wm Stanes himself survived and that the said Wm Stanes after the last court viz 2.4.1647 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Wm Adams instead of the bailiff and in the presence of Edw Cresner gentleman and Hen Abbott two customary tenants of the said manor testifying the aforesaid croft of land with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Grace Abbott of Earls Colne spinster her heirs and assigns forever who present in court humbly sought admittance to whom the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said croft of land with appurtenances to the said Grace Abbott her heirs and assigns from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents etc and she paid her fine and made fealty
