whereas at a court held for the said manor 15.1.1650 it was presented by the homage that Jn Pilgrim who held to him and his heirs one messuage or tenement called Goulds or Goldgate and five parcels of land containing 15a more or less whereof two of the said closes are called Wallfield did since the then last court surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of Hen Abbott junior in place of the bailiff and in the presence of Hen Abbott senior and Wm Adams senior two customary tenants of the said manor the same witnessing the said messuage and premises with the appurtenances to the use of his last will and testament and whereas at a court held for the said manor 30.12.last it was presented that the said Jn Pilgrim since the then last court died so seised now at this court came Cicely now the wife of Thos Bragg and formerly the wife of the said Jn Pilgrim and Edm Pilgrim one of the sons of the said Jn Pilgrim and showed forth in court the last will and testament of the said Jn Pilgrim in writing bearing the date 5.12.1650 the tenor whereof concerning the premises is in these words item I give and bequeath to my son Edm the lands in Earls Colne called Goldgate with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging yards orchards and closes with the two closes called Wellfield provided that my said son do pay 40li to my daughters Margt Eliz and Cicely to be divided into three equal portions the payment of the first to be when my said son shall accomplish twenty three years and the other two as they shall accomplish their age of twenty one years which payment if is be not faithfully and truly performed according to the former gift my will is that those three daughters shall enter and take the two fields called Wallfield to them and their heirs forever and by a codicil in writing added to the said will and bearing the date 7.12.1650 aforesaid he did further will as followeth furthermore I do tie my wife to keep son Edm my daughters Margt Eliz and Cicily till they be fourteen years of age apiece in consideration whereof she is to take the rent at Earls Colne and Ramsey otherwise not to intermeddle therewith but to be relieved by some other for the use of the said children as they shall make choice of and thereupon the said Cicily Bragg and Edm humbly prayed to be admitted to the said messuage and premises according to the tenor of the said will to whom the lord of the said manor by his said steward did grant and deliver thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage parcels of land and premises to the said Cicily and her assigns according to the tenor and effect of the said will and after her estate ended and determined to have and to hold the said messuage lands and premises to the said Edm his heirs and assigns according to the condition and effect of the said will of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs due and of right accustomed and they gave to the lord for a fine
