at a court held 9.10.1680 Rich Appleton was admitted to one cottage late built and one parcel of land lying next to the churchyard of Earls Colne abutting on a yard once Wm Bridge's and then Rich Hatch junior now at this court it appeared that the said Rich 13.2.last surrendered by the hands of Sam Burton bailiff in the presence of Jn Josselin gentleman and Thos Bigsby the said cottage and appurtenances to the use of Roger Roote junior and Ann his wife for their lives and after their deaths to the heir of the body of the said Roger on the said Ann legitimately procreated and for defect of heirs to the heirs of the said Roger forever which Roger and Ann were admitted etc and gave fien and fealty respited
