in the name of god amen the 24.2.1644 etc I Jn Read of Earls Colne in the county of Essex yeoman being in health and in good and perfect remembrance thanks be given unto almighty god for the same do make and ordain this my last will and testament revoking all former wills and testaments whatsoever in manner and form following first I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty god my creator trusting assuredly through the merits and satisfaction of my lord and saviour jesus christ to have the full and free pardon of all my sins and to inherit eternal life and my body to the earth from whence it came to be buried in decent sepulchre and for that part and portion of worldly goods where with it hath pleased the lord in mercy to bless me withal item I do give and bequeath unto my loving son Jn Reade my sole heir and to his heirs forever all my bonds bills debts dues and demands whatsoever that now are and due unto me or hereafter shall be due also what nature kind or manner soever they be item I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Earls Colne the sum of 10s of lawful money of England to be paid unto them within six months next after my decease by mine executor hereafter mentioned item I give and bequeath unto Susanna Burton Mahitabel Burton Ann Burton and Mary Burton and Eliz Burton the daughters of Sam Burton and Anna his now wife my daughter the sum of 5s apiece of lawful money of England to be paid unto them within one year next after my decease if they shall be then living and demand the same by my executor hereafter mentioned item I give and bequeath unto Sam Burton and Jn Burton sons of the said Sam Burton and Anna his now wife my daughter the sum of 5s apiece to be paid unto them within one year next after my decease by my said executor hereafter mentioned item I give and bequeath unto four neighbours which shall bear my corpse to the earth 12d apiece to be paid unto them by my said executor hereafter mentioned all the rest of my movable goods household stuff chattels and implements of household stuff whatsoever my debts and legacies being paid I give and bequeath unto my said loving son Jn Reade whom I make my sole executor item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anna Burton the now wife of Sam Burton the sum of 2s6d of lawful money of England to be paid unto her by my said executor in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written sealed signed and delivered in the presence of us mark Barth Clarke mark Jn Clarke Jn Read
