in the name of god amen the 11.4.1644 etc I Steph Champney of Earls Colne in the county of Essex husbandman being weak in body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks be given unto almighty god for the same do make and ordain this my last will and testament renouncing all former wills in manner and form following viz first I bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty god my creator trusting through the merits of my lord and saviour jesus christ to have the full and free pardon of all my sins and to inherit eternal life and my body to be buried in decent sepulchre and for that portion of worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased the lord to endue me withal item I give and bequeath unto Geo Mann son of Clem Mann and of Sarah his now wife my daughter and to the heirs of the said Geo lawfully begotten forever all that my messuage or tenement called Mordens and the moiety of a parcel of ground called Talhouse Greene containing in length 6p and in breadth 12ft and also my freehold ground called Pettmans or however otherwise called situate in Earls Colne abovesaid and for want of such issue unto the heirs of the said Sarah Mann forever item I give and bequeath unto Edw Champney my son the sum of 40s of lawful money of England to be paid unto him upon lawful demand within two years next after my decease out of the rents and profits of the premises before bequeathed unto the said Geo Mann item I give and bequeath unto Sarah Mann my daughter mother of the said Geo all that east part of the said tenement called Mordens where she now liveth during her natural life and after her decease to the heirs of the said Geo Mann forever and for want of such issue unto the heirs of the said Sarah Mann forever item I give and bequeath unto Grace Champney my now wife all my tenement and garden which I lately purchased of Thos Herlackenden gent situate in Houlstreete alias Brooke Streete in Earls Colne aforesaid during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give and bequeath the same unto Rose Mann daughter of Clem and Sarah his now wife and to her heirs forever item I do also give and bequeath unto the said Rose Mann all the remainder of my movable goods bonds debts chattels and cattle whatsoever my debts being paid and funeral expenses discharged to be delivered unto her when she shall accomplish the full age of 24yr item I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend and neighbour Jn Reade the younger to be my executor to see this my last will and testament performed my debts and legacies paid and my funeral expenses discharged item my will and mind is that my said executor Jn Reade the younger shall have and take the rents issues and profits of the said tenement called Mordens and of the lands bequeathed unto the said Geo Mann aforesaid until he shall accomplish his full age of 24yr during all which term my will and mind is that my said executor shall out of the said rents and profits of the same tenement and lands maintain the same premises and the tenement which I bought of mr Thos Harlackenden which I have hereby bequeathed unto Grace my now wife during her natural life and after her decease unto Rose Mann and her heirs forever in and with all needful necessary reparation and amendments whatsoever and my will and mind is that when the said Geo shall accomplish his said age of 24yr that my said executor shall render an account under his hand in writing unto him the said Geo of the disbursements payments and expenses concerning the same and also the payments of the legacies herein bequeathed item my will and mind is if the said Geo Mann shall happen to die and decease this life without as aforesaid issue then my will and mind is that the heir to whom the same premises shall so descend shall maintain the same premises and the tenement before bequeathed unto Rose Mann after the decease of Grace my now wife and pay and discharge all my legacies herein bequeathed and if the said heir to whom the same premises shall so descend shall refuse to perform my will and mind in all things herein expressed then my will and mind is that my said executor shall have receive and take the rents and profits of the said tenement called Mordens and the lands bequeathed unto the said Geo Mann aforesaid so long and until the said 24yr of the age of the said Geo shall be accomplished as if he had lived thereto item I give and bequeath unto my said executor Jn Reade the sum of 20s to be paid unto him out of the rents issues and profits of the premises bequeathed unto the said Geo Mann in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written read sealed signed published delivered and declared to be the last will and testament of the said Steph Champney in the presence of us Jn Reade sen Robt Fenche mark Steph Champney
