Copyhold of Priory - quitrent 5s6d James Phil Honywood Sam Forster 5.4.1832 admitted as trustees under the will of Wm Phil Honywood to all those three croft of customary or copyhold land sometime in two, with a way belonging to the same - containing 4a more or less called Ames or otherwise, lying in Markshall ( Ames - the 4a lying in Markshall. There is a field, formerly parcel of what was formerly Colne Park - situate in Thrift Lane next adjoining to a wood parcel to the manor of Feering belonging to the Bishopric of London - which field is called Amyes Gate Fielde in the Terrier of 1598 - on the opposite side of the lane is Mattershall (Markshall) parish, within Marks Hall Park - If this is any clue, the 4a of copyhold are in mr Honywood's park. In 1862 this was set out by commissioners - see the tracing from the map - with maps of Honywood's copyholds)
I have no map or survey of this copyhold called Ames and lying in Markshall parish (sometime called Matishall) I have no means of locating it - like most other property it derives its name from a former possessor. In 1573 it was surrendered by Thos Bevest to Robt Ames . In 1639 Thos Honywood was admitted on surrender of executors of Dorothy Ames (Dan Aymes )
