whereas Robt Partridge now deceased late held from the lord of this manor as of the same manor for himself and his heirs by copy of a roll of a court of the said same manor one messuage 26a of land 3a of pasture and 1r of meadow called Curds and three crofts of land called Barmans Field Rowncies and Pelles Land lying in Barmans Field with appurtenances as by a roll of a view with court held for the said manor in the years of the reign of Elizabeth late queen in 31Eliz1 and 36Eliz1 clearly shown and he himself being thus seised thereof surrendered into the hands of the lord according to the custom of the said manor all and singular the said lands and tenements with their appurtenances except for 6a of wooded land parcel of a certain grove called Curds Grove directly adjoining the demesne lands of the lord called Colne Park to the use and behoof of Rose his then wife during her natural lifetime and after to the use and behoof of Jeff Cuckocke senior Jn Cuckocke junior Francis Cuckocke Jeff Cuckocke junior Rose Cuckocke Susanna Cuckocke and Prudence Cuckocke children of the said Rose and Jeff Cuckocke sometime her husband and their heirs forever as by a roll of a view with court held for the said manor the saturday in the week of pentecost 14.6.1595 is clearly shown and appears and whereas also the said five children viz Jeff Cuckocke senior Jn Cuckocke junior Francis Cuckcocke Rose Cuckocke and Susanna Cuckcocke are now dead and by reason thereof the said messuage and all and singular the said premises in remainder by and after the death of the aforesaid Rose their mother are devolved upon the said Jeff Cuckcocke junior and Prudence Cuckcocke now wife of Ralph Lunt the remaining children of the said children by right and accretion now to this court came the aforesaid Jeff Cuckcocke junior and Prudence wife of the said Ralph Lunt and sought admittance to the messuage and other said premises in remainder falling to them by and after the death of the aforesaid Rose their mother as of right according to the tenor and true intention at the surrender of the aforesaid Robt Partridge to whom the same said Jeff Cuckcocke junior and Prudence the lord by his said steward granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have to themselves the aforesaid Jeff and Prudence and their heirs to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents customs and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and they gave to the lord their fine as is shown etc and they made fealty and were admitted etc and afterwards to this same court came the aforesaid Jeff Cuckcocke junior and Ralph Lunt and Prudence his wife in person Prudence herself first by the aforesaid steward in full and open court solely and secretly examined and acknowledged according to the custom of the said manor and surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of the aforesaid steward the said messuage and all and singular the said premises with their appurtenances and their remainder which should come to them through and after the death of the aforesaid Rose their mother and all right estate title and interest of and in the same to the use and behoof of Roger Harlakenden gentleman one of the sons of Rich Harlakenden esq lord of this manor and the heirs and assigns of Roger himself forever to whom the same said Roger present here in court the lord by his said steward granted and delivered thereof seisin in the said form to have for himself the aforesaid Roger and his heirs to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents customs and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he paid the fine thereof and was admitted thereof tenant etc but his fealty now was respited because he was under age
